NATAP Curriculum
The basic curriculum is published by the Nurse Assistant Training & Assessment Program (NATAP), which is a working group managed by the California Community College System. This is the state approved curriculum, and I strongly recommend that you utilize this curriculum for your NATP.
NATAP is a series of 16 Modules, each of which is essentially a lesson plan, and all of which cover all of the required elements of the Title 22, Chapter 2.5 list of skills for a CNA.
You could teach the class using the NATAP CNA Curriculum, without using a supplemental textbook. However, you will find that the NATAP Modules lack photos/illustrations, and are written in a way that might be hard for students to follow.

Textbooks and Training Resources
There are several vendors that offer textbooks and training resources to support NATP using the NATAP CNA Curriculum. These are written at a level that is more appropriate for students, include many photos and illustrations. Most feature a textbook that is intended by be reused from one class to another, and a workbook that is meant to be kept by the student.
Some textbook vendors offer useful training resources, such as instructor manuals, DVDs with skills demonstrations and other training lessons.
One particularly valuable training resource is a “NATAP Crosswalk”. This is a document for instructors that links specific lessons from the NATAP CNA Curriculum to specific sections and pages of the publisher’s textbook.

For planning purposes, assume that a hard cover textbook will be useful for 6+ classes, a soft cover textbook will be useful for 2-3 classes. Workbooks are one use only, and are intended to be kept by the student once they graduate.
